- The rate implicit in the lease is that which causes the PVMLP to equal the asset’s cost.
- Rationale: the lessor’s rate is usually more reasonable.
- To avoid the understatement of a liability by the lessee (if their rate is too high). Lessee cannot use too low a rate because, by conservatism, an asset cost cannot be > the FMV.
